“Tell me, Sarah, have you ever thought about what’s going to happen at the end of next week?” Reena called from the bathroom.
In the living room, Sarah shook her head as she packed her suitcase.
The steps foretold of Reena’s arrival,”Are you going to answer me?”
Setting aside her packing, Sarah turned. “My dear Reena, I understand you must think me juvenile and immature for leaving for work 9 days before our daughter is do to arrive.” Placing her hands on Reena’s belly. “This trip is only over the weekend. I will be back Monday afternoon. You have no need to worry.”
Huffing, “Are you serious? No need to worry? You can’t be that obtuse?”
“Darling, I am not obtuse. I have to work. We have a family to pay for now.” Bending to kiss Reena’s belly before returning to packing.
“I know, but why do you have to go this weekend? Why not...SHIT!”
Spinning around the trickling sound caught her. “Guess I’m not going.” Chuckling softly, Sarah grasped Reena’s hands. “It’s time, love. We are hospital bound.”
“See,” Reena spoke between breaths, “Even Zodicia knows Mama is gone too often.”
Laughing, “That’s great? 2 against 1.”
